Five Things You Need to Know about Writing Articles

I decided to research the topic of writing articles when I started my freelance business, and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed reading through all aspects of the process. Here are five things that have made me feel more confident about starting a new publishing venture with some solid knowledge from authors and writing coaches.

Don't be afraid to write your own article! Many writers get discouraged by their writer's block. Instead, you need to find ways to help yourself keep going until you finish it. The same goes for every other aspect of building an online presence.

1. Write what interests you. Don’t be afraid to put down your own work if it doesn't interest anyone else. It might be something you’ve always wanted to do but never thought about because the idea or topic is so unfamiliar that you don’t know how to approach it. When in doubt, write what interests you!

Find interesting topics

2. Find an audience! Even though people who read your article may not be interested in the topic, your readers will most likely want to hear your thoughts and opinions on the subject. Finding out your target reader by using Google Analytics can bring you a lot of useful information. Once you understand who your customers are, you can build marketing strategies to attract them back to read your content. The key? Make sure your post offers value to your viewers and makes sense and relatable to their lives.

3. Research Your Audience - In order to make sure what's being said is accurate, you should go outside of your comfort zone and try to figure out what your clients and followers would want to see! If you're familiar with blog SEO, this is called keyword research. There are thousands of techniques to choose from, but one thing that consistently drives traffic is using specific keywords targeted at your audience. For example, “best free software for beginners” is much more relevant to someone who has no experience online than “best cheap email marketing tools.”

4. Create a plan - After doing thorough research and figuring out the needs of your target audience, you'll need to create a clear strategy and writing structure. This way, once you've created your first draft, you're able to move onto editing and polishing it before submitting it for publication. Having a plan helps you stick to deadlines and stay motivated because you know how long each part of your journey takes.

5. Keep it up! We all get stuck sometimes (we get distracted or procrastinate). However, there is no reason to quit. Not only is it frustrating to let go of a finished project, but it also shows others that your ideas are worth trying and capable of improving. So don’t stop now! Just set aside some time today to start working on that blog post or piece of fiction you want to publish!

I hope these tips have given you a better understanding of how to start a successful writing career. As you continue working towards completing your first published piece, remember: writing is as important as any business endeavor because you can spend far, far less money on advertising than you could at any other point of your entire life! Good luck, and happy writing!
